Expedition

Today's hashpoint was in the southern part of the graticules, so I thought I could do my first successful expedition in the 51 11 graticule, whose southern border is close to my home in 50 11. I also hoped that I could get a speed racer achievement, because the hashpoint seemed to be located on a street in Roßleben, which meant the speed limit would most likely be 50 km/h (that would be really hard on flat terrain) or 30 km/h (which would be very fine).

After work I rode home to have a little snack and to change my clothes and the bike (taking the road bike instead of my every-day bike). I started at 18:36 and took the roads through Apolda, Eckartsberga, Bad Bibra and Memleben (where a missing bridge forced me to look for an alternative route) to Roßleben, where I arrived at the convent school's ground where the hashpoint was located at 20:35. Unfortunately, I don't think one could find a maximum speed limit on that ground - there were no traffic signs concerning the speed, but you also wouldn't want to drive at 50 km/h there, so I just forgot about the speed racer achievement and took some photos. Afterwards I ate one of the four cereal bars I carried with me and headed back (this time through Wiehe, Buttstädt, Apolda). Meanwhile it got dark and I rode the last two hours in the dark. Got home at 22:50 after 112.2 km of cycling (1293 m total ascent and 4:02 h ride time).
