Noticed this one on Friday, and decided to wait to see how I felt on Sunday after my 14 hour shift on Saturday and to see what family plans were. As the answers were "not too bad" and "not much," figured I'd go for a bit of a drive after supper and pick up another cherry for my collection.
Expedition
Well, supper eaten, I headed out to the chorus of "You're going all the way up there? Why?" Still, it was my evening to waste, so off I went for a bit of a drive to this hard to access hash. First stop? Gas. My trusty steed needed some high-octane oats if it was going to get me back as well as to the hash.
The hash seemed pretty much on the highway from the Google map, near where it crossed the Jacquet River (pronounced 'jacket', something I should have brought). The drive was marked by thickening clouds: Hurricane Bill whirled away six hours driving southeast, too far away to cause rain for me, but enough for long cloud bands.
The drive up was uneventful. Due to the highway, I had to pass the point, head another five kilometers past, then turn around, which turned out to be only partially necessary. Once I got back to the river, I pulled over to the side, and headed out with camera and GPS to see. I was expecting a sandy edge to a wide river, but here, it was a bit of a gorge. I gingerly made my way down the slope, and checked my GPS. Seems I misjudged from the map; the point seemed to be on the other side of the bridge. Under we went as the goats, er, vehicles rumbled overhead.
The GPS dance began, made more difficult by the bridge blocking the satelites where it was actually easiest to walk. Still, the number went down...finally, 10m, but the cliff ahead was steep, and I became aware of what would happen should I slip. Pictures taken, I gave up, climbing back up to where my trusty steed waited and returned home, giving this one to Mother Nature, for I was her bitch.
