With a drizzle of rain coming down, it was a spur of the moment decision to try to do the geohash with my new iPhone. With RoadRunner on her way to work, I downloaded a GPS app and headed for the spot. Using Peron to place the spot on Google Maps was a nice tool to work my way toward the spot. Switching to the GPS app, I found that it displayed 6 decimal places for lat/long, but even with a stated 16 foot accuracy, doing the GPS shuffle didn't change the displayed coordinates. Didn't take any pics of the location, but did grap a quick screen capture of the GPS display.
It looks like the MotionX iPhone app updates in something close to 0.0001 increments. I need to play with it a little more to see how useful it really is for geohashing. Although the iPhone shows the time at the top, the date isn't displayed on the same screen as the coordinates. This might be a respectable fall back method when my Magellan GPS gets left home.
