Plans

I have been watching for possible hashpoints since we arrived on the sixth. When I saw this was in the parking lot of a pub and not that far from where we have been some of the week, I thought we could give it a try.

I also had scoped and seen that this would be the first successful expedition in this graticule, so huzzah!

Expedition

I came into town to play in the main event of the World Series of Poker. We knew going in that we would have at least three days off based on my starting group. On my list of things to do while we were in town included reaching a hashpoint in this or a neighboring graticule.

When I woke up, I checked for the coordinates and saw they would be close. When the map came up I saw they were in the parking lot of a pub so all the better.

As the hashpoint was not that far from the Rio where the WSOP was going into its final day, we decided to catch a cab there for the opening ceremonies and then take a cab to the hashpoint. Watching the ceremonies was bittersweet because while I had lasted into day three of the event and outlasted 4400 other people, I still craved to be in the spotlight with these players

We wandered down to the merchandise area so I could buy the shirt I had been eyeing all week and then we caught a cab. The cabbie (John) was probably a bit confused as to why we picked that PT's when we would pass three or four along the way, but it's Vegas so he didn't ask.

When he dropped us off he gave us his name and number so we would have a pickup if and when we needed.

Inside, we had a decent meal and drinks. I spent a sad amount of time on the phone with a customer support person for a company who shall remain nameless that I hope rots in hell for all of time, so if you look at my track log for the time at the point, so will see what looks like me pacing like a caged tiger at the zoo.

We called John who picked us up for our next stop at Frankie's Tiki Room. On the way he asked why we had chosen that one and I briefly explained geohashing. I don't know if he got it but at least the answer explained what the heck we were doing going there instead of any other place.

At Frankie's, we had three drinks each. We might have stopped at two, but since we plugged in my phone for a while we figured we could kill the time and that we owed them for the juice. If you come to Vegas and you like the tiki theme at all, this is the place for you.

After that I pushed to walk about three quarters of a mile to a puzzle Geocache (spoilers in tracklog) I had solved the other day. We made it down there and found the container and I signed the log. We decided to call John again for a pickup at the nearest intersection and had him take us back to the Golden Nugget where we are staying. I forgot to turn of the tracklog until we were at dinner, so don't mind the extra time sitting still.

Tracklog

My tracklog is available in GPX and KMZ formats.
