Retro expedition on 2012-09-09

I had certainly intended to make this one on the correct day, but I still had a university assignment due with a midnight deadline, so that took priority. The assignment was eventually finished and turned in (at 11:45pm; thank goodness for electronic submission!) but that left too little time to go hashing, so I went to bed instead.

The following day was Friday and, as usual, a flurry of coordinates arrived at 2:30pm for the coming weekend. Sunday's hash turned out to be just 3 km away, so I decided to tack a retro-expedition on to that day's outing.

It turned out that I was pretty busy on Sunday, too (mostly breaking up concrete and digging large holes; we have a lot of work to do in the garden!) so I didn't leave the house until 7:50pm. I went to the correct day's hashpoint first, and then drove the short distance down to the retro hashpoint. The roads were small and bendy, and good fun in the dark. At one point I startled a hare sitting in the road, but I wasn't going particularly quickly and it had plenty of time to hop into the hedge.

There was an entrance into the field for tractors and the like; I pulled the car in and parked there. The field was full of stubble from this year's crop and I was easily able to walk the 160 metres or so straight across the field to the hashpoint. Success was easily achieved; just a shame it was three days late!

It wasn't completely dark yet, and I could just about make out the wind turbines on a nearby hill rotating in the dark. In the other direction the lights of Cambridge were on the horizon, and I headed back in that direction for home and bed. I arrived back just over an hour after I left.
