Expedition
Danatar
I'll just copy one of my older expedition reports: I had been celebrating Christmas with my family in Konstanz and had to drive back to Würzburg because I had to work..., the night shift this time. I started after lunch, when suddenly after 6.5 km a warning light went on and the car's display told me "exhaust (fumes, go to) repair shop". I phoned the car service number and after telling them my coordinates (luckily there was a GPS unit next to me...) they put me through to "the nearest" repair shop. They must have misheard the coordinates, even though I repeated them, because the repair shop was 50 km from me. Instead of driving there I talked to the repair shop in Konstanz. They asked some questions and then told me that it was no big problem and I would be able to drive on, but I should visit a repair shop on the next working day to look at the car's error log. So I continued.
At the Bad Dürrheim exit I left the route home and soon I parked my car on the street near the hashpoint. When I got out of the car I saw that I had almost driven over a dead fox which now lay behind the car. I walked along the nearest forest track but then I didn't want to walk a long detour by following the track, so I took a shortcut through the forest. Which didn't turn out so short after all because of the underbrush. But after a few minutes I was at the meadow I had seen on the satellite image and I followed the forest edge (the meadow was very wet) until I was near the hashpoint. Getting the correct coordinates on the GPS display took a while, but after the usual photos I could walk back to the car and continue home. This small detour had taken much more time than planned and together with the time lost talking to the various repair shops it was getting late. Luckily there were no traffic jams because when I arrived in Würzburg I only had 15 minutes left before I had to leave for work.
