Expedition
Discoguy77 biked along the paved LSCR trail until km. 6, where he took the Hydraulic Connector trail down. It was a cold day, but with brilliant sunshine. The ambient temperature was likely just below zero, but with no way to measure the temperature he could not claim the Frozen Geohash achievement. The panoramic photo was taken at the Mid Valley picnic site. From there he made his way down to the Spur 4 bridge, which was thoroughly covered in ice (see photos of bridge deck and guardrail). The road was occasionally covered in snow, frozen completely solid. Some parts were barely passable by staying within a tire track, but other sections required dismounting. After travelling north along the Spur 4 trail he neared the hash location, dumped his bike near some interesting ice formations (see photos), and changed into running shoes. He then descended west towards the river. The frozen ground was much more firm and thus easier to traverse than it would be in summer, especially on the 45-degree slopes. The hash location was a little awkward, being on a steep slope. He then backtracked the same route home, encountering a coyote at approximately km. 5 of the Seymour Valley Trailway. The coyote slunk into the bushes and watched him from there, so it was not possible to get a great photo, but you can see the coyote's head at least.
