What better way to celebrate the anniversary of my first-ever geohash than by geohashing? (especially since there's an achievement for it). Unfortunately, I had to content myself with a half-grat geohash (+.5° W), since I didn't have time to go all the way out to Long Island.
Location
41-07 Crescent St., Long Island City (Queens), NY About a block and a half from the Queensboro Plaza station (N, Q, 7), not far from Queens Boulevard (the notorious "Boulevard of Death). The hash itself was at the intersection of Crescent St. and 41st Avenue. The area wasn't completely run-down, but it wasn't in the best shape, either. There was a lot of construction work going on nearby, though, so that area should start to look better soon, hopefully.

Plans
My plans for this expedition basically went off without a hitch. See "Expedition" below for more details.
Expedition
It was a simple, and straightforward plan, and a smashing success. It started snowing as I left my dorm, but whatever - it was still technically winter, so I could deal with that. Public transit got me there pretty quickly - door-to-hash in a half hour. Took the 4 to Grand Central, then the 7 to Queensboro Plaza. Half a block west, and a block east, and I was there. Taped my marker to the pole supporting the "Walk/Don't Walk" sign, took my pictures, and had some time to kill, so I walked around the block and discovered this cool little Japanese art gallery, where I hung out for a while before heading back into Manhattan.
