Plans

As this hash will be on the Winter Soltice (Northern Hemisphere) my plan is to set off early in the morning, drive as far as possible and walk to the hash point to watch the sun rise. - Sun rise might be difficult to watch as rain is forecast :-[

Expedition

The alarm went about 5am...

After breakfast and packing camera, Foretrex GPS, tablet and the Buddha, of course, I set off. I anticipated it would take an hour to get near to a place to park. Parking always a bit a of an unknown quantity even with the use of Google Maps to provide some foresight.

Arrived in slightly less than an hour. It had rained on the way so I was expecting to go searching in the rain. As it turned out the rain cleared and the sky brightened a little. The waning moon was still visible in the south-west and the sun was yet to show. My plan was to reach the hashpoint before sunrise.

Wellies and waterproofs on, I set off. Firstly crossing the swing bridge to get to the tow path for the Gloucester-Sharpness Canal. I knew the hash point wasn't on the towpath but in a neighbouring field. I walked up the two path keeping an eye on the Foretrex. Saw one person walking her dog, and some signs of life in the canal boats moored at their moorings.

Arrived as close as I could to the hash point. The field was on the other side of a steep bank and ditch, about 2 metres down. Plus there were people with shotguns about; I could hear the retorts every now and then. I thought it best to stick to the public right of way. So I missed out on a Sunrise_geohash :-(

Waited for sunrise (around 8:15am) which announced itself with a brightening sky the sun hidden behind the clouds. The weather was mild and dry which was a relief and allowed plenty of time to take photos and admire the scenery.
