Expedition
From base camp in Plainview, I headed south on the wrong side of the railroad tracks, and then had to pass quite a ways to the south before finding a road back eastward over it. After a little geometric reckoning on the even one-mile grid of farm roads, I got to the crossroads I was looking for, 150 feet from the hashpoint.
Walking down the road got me to within 18 feet of the hashpoint, and then hopping across the drainage ditch got it to about 12. At that point, I was not, as I expected from the satellite imagery, in a scrubby corner of a central-pivot field, but at the edge of a field that was planted in corn right up to the ditch. Did I tramp through the corn the final 12 feet to the hashpoint? Hell no -- that's FOOD being grown, and I'm no barbarian.
But I'm going to claim victory just the same.
