Expedition
We had some business in Keuruu center for Tuesday afternoon, namely getting gas for the car, visiting the library, eating out, going to grocery store and taking daughter to her dance lesson. So it was no big deal to add another one to the list, a hashpoint of course! The added benefit was also, that detouring a little would guarantee that the above-mentioned daughter would fall asleep enroute and cope with the demands of our busy afternoon routine a lot better.
So we packed our stuff and headed north. The hashpoint was about 20 km away, all on gravel roads. The studded winter tyres we put on last weekend ate the gravel road effortlessly and we were soon turning to a smaller, private road. According to the map it was probably open to public traffic. There was a boom at the start of the road, but it was open, so we drove on. The road winded quite closely past a couple of houses, then turned towards unpopulated hills.
Nearing the hash-site, there was a large forest work going on. The work was almost over, but there was still one excavator at distance processing tree stumps or something. Luckily the large tractor and trailer combination that had transported the excavator, didn't block the road and we could get past. Soon we were at an intersection, only 60 meters to go to the hashpoint.
Half-way through the private road, daughter had fallen asleep. So we left her daydreaming and embarked to the forest with Mrs. Tilley. Of course we took the hard way, going through thicket and over large ditches. Only when approaching hashpoint we saw there would have been a path leading right to it, if we would have backtracked only 20 meters on the main road before entering forest. Well, the point had been reached, and that was the main thing. The accuracy was very good, 0,78 meters.
Because the forest on the other side had just been felled, there was a very cold breeze. These cold winds from the north feel always so chilly at the start of the winter, when the body hasn't accustomed to them yet. The temperature was barely on the plus side, which would, say, in March, feel very warm.
We walked back to the car, and continued onwards on the road, as the map said it was possible to go through without backtracking. It was indeed true, although there was also a boom at the other end of the road. That didn't seem to be used for a time, though. So we reached public roads again, and cruised through Multia center to Keuruu to conduct our above-mentioned business.
