I live a boring life. Each day I wake up and take my youngest to high school for math class, about an hour later I pick him and two other students up and take them to middle school for the remainder of their classes. During this time I typically occupy myself by catching Charmander at a local park.
Today I received a notification that the hash point fell within the area that I had designated as achievable. I looked at the Google Maps satellite image and decided that I would not have to commit any crimes to achieve the hash and decided that I would enliven my day through this effort.
It had been a while since I last set off in pursuit of glory. So after I dropped my son at school I continued through heavy morning traffic to my local coffee establishment to stock up on liquid courage. I took that time to install Geohash Droid on my new phone and get it configured for the mission ahead. I also noticed that the clock was working against me. The high school runs a short schedule on Wednesdays so I would need to get to the hash and return to the school with little time to spare during morning rush hour. Finally, some excitement.
The drive to the hash was mostly uneventful, there was a turn that I thought I missed, but it turned out I had not missed it. I parked on the street too far from the hash and decided to move my car. Finally I opened up Geohash Droid and learned that I had parked right on the spot. I snapped a selfie feeling a great sense of accomplishment.
At that point I noticed that the clock was working against me. I would have to be very lucky or very good to make it back to the high school on time. I remounted my vehicle, made a u-turn and set about my journey.
Several blocks from the hash, in violation of California law and common sense, I looked at my phone while at a stop light and noticed that I received a notification from the wiki. It turned out someone had commented about the location of my picture being too far away from the hash point, by miles (which as I understand it are larger than kilometers.) I was very nervous until I realized that they were commenting on the picture of my coffee I had taken to test out my wiki credentials newly set in Geohash Droid.
I was able to reach the school with two minutes to spare and safely shuttle the math students to their middle school. Tomorrow I will likely return to my boring schedule of spinning pokestops, but I will always fondly remember today's adventure and will tell stories about it to my grandchildren.
