Expedition

I discovered this geohash on another weekday during my time off work. It involved taking the train out to Pakenham and riding out east through Gippsland.

The weather was sporadic rain and a bit windy. I was wearing a cotten tshirt and when I got wet the wind froze me. It was a nice ride through the rural ex-urbia but after a while I felt a bit dispirited.

I stopped in Drouin for a kebab, which filled me up much too much. I kept going past some new housing estates before arriving a Warragul. The hash was directly on the highway on the other side of a park. I rode through it, circling a velodrome a few times. Soon I was clambering over the crash barrier, crossing the west-bound carriageway and resting my bike on the opposing crash barrier in order to reach the hash on foot.

I danced around the hash looking for a good proximity, jumping on and off the road depending on oncoming traffic. Eventually I was satisfied.

The train timetable was unfavourable. I needed to be back in Melbourne in a few hours so I had to train it, but there wasn't a train for another hour or so. So I rode up into the foothills of the Strzleckis for a bit of a view. I could see Mt Clear which I'd walked up a few months ago with my girlfriend.

I rode back to the station with a minute to spare for my train. Sadly, it was delayed by 40 minutes so I spent the time at the Warragul pub.

I felt that I didn't get the ride out of this geohash that I was hoping. My road bike was old and creaky and I spent most of the day feeling cold and a bit dejected. The train ride home was satisfying though.
