Expedition

The luck o' the Oirish must have been with me on this fine St. Patty's Day, because today's geohash just happened to be right down the road from my work! First time that's ever happened. So, I skipped out for a wee bit around 1:00 and headed down to one of the many car dealerships along Route 9. This particular one was an Acura dealership, which is such a random car brand. Who says to themselves, "Man, I got myself a new Acura and she's a beaut!" I'm not a car person in the slightest, so I wouldn't know if there's a niche out there for their cars, but it sure seems like there's not.

The hash happened to be on the side of the dealership, in between one of those big glass dealership windows and a row of used cars being displayed in the parking lot. My GPS app was being finicky, so I was never standing on a spot with complete certainty that that was the geohash. However, the app told me I was within 3 m at one point, and somewhere in all of the pacing I did on that small stretch of asphalt, I am certain that I was on the geohash at some point.

I had a sliver of doubt afterwards that the spot wasn't actually in the Acura parking lot, but rather on the road exiting to Route 9 that was between Acura and Tractor Supply. That Tractor Supply store and the road I mentioned aren't on Google Maps, though, and on Google Maps you can see the dealership and the road that the geohash is on, which by process of elimination must be the Acura parking lot. Therefore, I could breath a sigh of relief that the spot I had taken as the geohash really was the real McCoy.

All of the successful expeditions I've taken so far have involved treks through nature, so this one was definitely less satisfying. Plus, it took me less than 10 minutes to get there. However, I can't look a gift horse in the mouth if I ever want to make it as one of the big boys in the geohashing world, which I definitely do. I think I need to start using Google Maps or a more reliable app than the random one I've been using though. I'd like to have a little more certainty than I've had when I really am standing on the spot. Oh well. Still a successful expedition nonetheless.
