Expedition
If I took the right buses (only possible once a day), this would be a sub-2h expedition, so I went for it. I took the train to Kaltenkirchen, but it took too long and I couldn't get to my bus in time. I tried, but on my way saw the bus already standing at a crossroads after my stop. I looked at Google Maps and hoped to catch the bus at the next station – so I sped through the cobbled inner city on my bike and actually managed to get there just before the bus. I took out my ticket, the bus driver saw me standing at the station – and drove right past, not even slowing down. I don‘t think that‘s ever happened to me before. Since when can a bus driver just decide to ignore passengers, especially when the bus is almost empty?
But, unbeknownst to me, the bus not taking me up was actually a good thing, as I noticed right after that my hoodie, which I'd strapped onto my rack because it was very hot, was missing. I cycled back the way I came, and after a while saw a guy carrying it on the sidewalk – he'd picked it up and said he wasn't sure where to bring it. I guess I was lucky to have gone back while he was still there, or else I might've lost it for good, and it was the first day I wore it. But he gave it back to me, and I tied it to the rack.
I pondered what to do now as I'd missed the only good bus connection of the day, and decided to cycle to the hash and back and take the train from Kaltenkirchen an hour later. So I rode the 9.4 km to Hasenmoor, having exhausted my little spare time when I arrived as I mostly cycled on the bumpy uneven sidewalks instead of the street. The hash lay in a dense 300 m long crop field, but fortunately only 12 m onto it (otherwise I would've accessed it as there were no tractor tracks). I went there in big steps, took some pictures and quickly set off again, cycling the same way back to Kaltenkirchen.
On my way, I looked up the ETA and noticed I was already behind, and didn't really make ground during the next minutes. So I eventually abandoned the idea of taking the train, slowed down and decided to cycle home. But when I came past the station, I was surprised to see a train standing there, going south (off the regular intervals), so I seized the opportunity. In the end, the whole expedition only took six minutes longer that it would've if everything had gone as planned.
