Expedition

Very simple proposition here. I get off work, I ride out in the wrong direction - not east towards my home as usual but out west and into the industrial fringe.

I dodge the odd truck and duck into a few service lanes, riding through some intersections I was involved in the construction of back in an earlier job.

It gets dark, I have lights. The road deteriorates. No problem.

One long, straight ride into the darkness.

I get to the hash. It's off a narrow, potholed road near some trees. It's in a field so I jump the fence. The barb is tangled on the ground so it only takes a couple of steps over some basalt rocks.

I march across the field. Maybe 100m. There's a crop of trees standing where the hash is. I have to go round.

I pick the wrong way. I go all the way around in a big circle. Waste of time.

The hash is inside the crop of trees so I go in. The ground is covered in weeds and spiky bushes. I push through until the distance gets to 1m. I stop, go backwards and forwards. When the reading is less than a metre I take a screenshot. Then other photos of where I am. Some mosquitoes bite me. I walk back to my bike.

I ride on, taking a turnoff. I'm going to the station - Tarneit - to take the easy way home. The fields turn into new housing estates. Big signs advertising all the space. The bike path starts and stops, temporary fencing blocking the way.

I climb over the bridge and arrive at the station. As I touch on the train comes, taking me home.

Here is my route.
