Expedition

My first geohash in the southern half of my home graticules! Hooray!

I didn't plan to go to the Observatory that day, because I'd been there the previous two days and can easily work from home, but since this hash was only 2 km from Bergedorf station where I get off the train, I figured I'd go there again. I took my usual trains in the morning, but got off at Mittlerer Landweg and cycled the 5.1 km to the hashpoint. I could've departed at Nettelnburg, which would've been way closer, but opted to cycle through the beautiful Boberger Niederung and along the Bille, Bergedorf's main river, which turned out to be a great decision. The Boberger Niederung is very lush and my favourite place in all of Hamburg (an expedition of mine there can be read at 2019-05-29 53 10).

From the main street, I had to walk 20 m into the small wood, which thankfully was not too dense. I hashdanced for some time until I found an okay spot, where I took pictures with Baruch, Jackie, and Eagle. There was much litter in the forest, I even found a fragment of a half-buried large porcelain bowl and a complete tent.

Afterward, I wanted to cycle along the Bille to Bergedorf center, but I took a wrong turn and ended up cycling 4 km and along a much longer portion of the Bille than I intended (but I didn't mind). In the center I bought my lunch at a huge supermarket, which took ages because I couldn't decide on what to eat, couldn't find things in the vast store, and the cashier lines were enormously long. Then, I cycled the last 2.3 km to the Hamburg Observatory, where I worked the day on my Bachelor's thesis.
