Expedition

Never wanting to miss a Geohash at ASP, bike ride plans were immediately thrown out in favor of a hike at Allegany.

After work, I got Myka all set up for dinner and snuck out with Simon to the car. Myka hadn't been feeling well and didn't eat her breakfast in the morning so I figured she wouldn't mind resting while we were out playing. It was a nice uneventful drive down, but as I was getting close to Ellicottville, I realized I forgot to grab a growler to stop at a local brewery on the way back for some beer. It was far too late, so we drove on.

Getting to ASP, I drove down to the Stone Tower road and parked just off the main road so I would be out of the way. Hopping out, Simon and I walked across the road and down a bit while the GPS warmed up. Just as it picked up enough satellites to start recording our location, I realized we had already nearly walked by the hashpoint. Heading into the woods, we had to navigate a couple times around the creeks that were flowing by but I eventually homed in on the spot. Getting my pictures, we headed back to the car and to the Summit Cabin area. I wanted to finally hike the Bear Paw trail around by the Stone tower I found on a Hash a LONG time ago. On this expedition, I found one of the trailheads but I did not know where the other was so it would be a great opportunity to not only check this off the list, but to learn where the full trail went.

Simon had a blast and the hike took me through a field I could see from the main road before working it's way past the Summit Cabins themselves. Turns out the other end of the trail just kind of ends at the road with a sign pointing in the trail's direction. I had seen that sign before, but assumed it was pointing toward an actual, marked trailhead. At least I know now!
