Expedition

Another hash in Hamburg, lucky me!

During the day, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to make this expedition due to time-constraints and possible thunderstorms in my area, but they fell through at the last minute and it looked like the storm was passing me by, so off I was!

I got to Farmsen and took the U1 until its end in Ohlstedt, arriving at 19:19, with only ~3km to walk left. Being a nature preserve, the walk through the woods was serene, the sky was dark grey and I started habitually checking the DWD WarnWetter-app and the Kachelmannwetter Pflotsh Storm-app, both of which reported a thunderstorm in my vicinity, but I figured that I could avoid it if I hurried, so I took the nearest path, growing steadily more worried about the weather, I finally arrived at my location and tried to cross the field to the hash, but there was a small river in the way …, damn, gonna have to walk around this one … for a few kilometres, *sigh*, this is the last time I only used google for my walk, it's now time I double-check every hash-field if there is a river in the way. Well, time to walk ar— thunder fuckfuckfuck, time to run away to the nearest housing-structure, I think I saw a church a bit back. But I took the wrong turn, which, after a while, sent me to a small section of Duvenstedt, I hurried onwards, now it looked like the storm would either be coming for me, or at least pass me by very closely. I hurried back to the train station and ~30min later I was there again. It was getting dark now and I wanted to be home at a reasonable time, but having just missed the train, I waited a bit more, and it looks like the thunderstorm hadn't just passed me by, it had disappeared and turned into regular rainclouds, I'll take a 90% chance of rain over any chance of a thunderstorm. I had to hurry, the sun was setting, thankfully there wasn't any risk of not getting home since I only had one stop and this train ran through the night.

And so I set off once again from the station, this time armed with the knowledge that I'd have to avoid the river, but also more weary. A few minutes after leaving, the last of the direct sunlight was gone, leaving only twilight, so I continued in the now dark forest, a bit squeamish every time I heard an unusual noise. I took the correct turn to avoid the river, and was now on a footpath between two fields, and, as the field was harvested, I decided to cut across it, seeing a deer on the way. I jumped across a gate and was on my merry way again, crossing a bridge (huzzah!), and, soon after, another field. I was now at the hashfield, but, once again, a river cut this field, thankfully I could walk around it, arriving at a service-way where I could walk along the edge of the field until it was time to cross onto it. On the way, I saw to two bicyclists, who stopped at a bench overseeing the hash, rather odd to be out at this time, especially since it was properly dark now, but who am I to judge. I walked on the field, in full view of the two people on the bench, hashdanced, took the requisite proof and pictures, let out a triumphant noise, greeted the two people, and was on my way back again. I opted for the more illuminated, if longer, path on my way back, and especially after I saw lighting in the sky, kept to a road with houses on my way back. I arrived in Ohlstedt a bit after 22, and took the U1 home.

This expedition was a lot harder than it should have been, this was definitely my hardest solo-expedition and one of my hardest expeditions overall. If I hadn't had goals and achievements in mind, I would not have gone back a second time, so, thank you to the concept of gamification?

to clarify, this piece of art is qualified for the geobrush-achievement, I took inspiration from an image from the expedition and then I made art that is not just a photograph
