Plans

There were no plans, and that made the thrill today...

Expedition

Guess I'll do todays story on a timeline base:

18:00 - I'm taking a shower and sit down after that and drink some beer and make myself something to eat

18:30 - The beer tastes good, as well as the big salad I made myself - a superb combination

18:45 - Almost done eating, I start checking the coordinates for tomorrow's geohash, maybe I will be able to visit the hash after work... I'm normally checking hashes at geohashing.info and, oh, how great, tomorrow's geohash is in Eschwege, only a few kilometers from my home and I can do a detour after work, drive into the city and do this easy hash. But, what is that other blue point on the map, even closer to my home? Well, it was today's hash! What the hell? Why didn't I check this yesterday? [There's an explanation for that I guess: monday I visited the dentist who performed a nice little surgery on one of my teeth which resulted in massive pain all evening... in retrospect, I didn't think about checking geohashes, like I normally do, but worried about if I could even sleep that night]

18:50 - Stopped eating. Changed my jogging pants for a jeans, put on my travel shoes, a jacket and snapped my camera and car keys and made myself on the way to do today's hash, since it seemed to be an easy one: no long walking distance and only some 8 km from my home! The only problem could be: the sun sets in some 40 minutes and there seems to be no path leading to the hash. So, I also snapped my flash light and jumped into my car!

18:54 - I am on my way, it stopped raining a few hours ago, so the drive is comfortable and I will be in Epterode in less then 15 minutes...

19:06 - I'm entering the Dieter-Liphardt-Strasse, which turns out to be a private street - there's a fabric for roof tiles here, but still I drive on, untill I can't get any further, so I park my car. In my rear-view mirror I see someone is coming out of the fabric and he's watching me. Hm, I decide to simply ignore him, get out of the car and continue my way by feet...

19:08 - The first hundred meters still were a tarred road...

19:09 - ...which then became a dirty path

19:10 - At the end of this dirt road, suddenly there stands this tower in the middle of nowhere... All in a sudden I realize, this must me an object in which a geocache (properly named Rumpelstiltskin) has been placed some 10 years ago, but I never went there in lack of perceiving any road or path leading to this point on any map, and now, I discover this place by coincidence! Excitement - but I decide to go for the hash first, since it is getting darker already.

19:13 - The final 100 meters went just straight into the forest, without any paths, and I reach the geohash location

19:15 - I do the usual hashdance, spot the hash within 2 meters and make some pics for proof... It's too dark for good pics already so I decide to turn away and get back before I can't recognize anything out here. So, I walk and walk and get to a point where I realize that I'm going in a wrong direction... Shit!

19:18 - Luckily, my geocaching app is functioning and I search for the geocache at the tower I came along. Huh? Instead of 100 meters, the distance to it is now 150 meters! So I'd been walking away from the geocache, and now I have this app to navigate me back to geocache - a very strange experience, since I really lost my orientation, even within such a small part of a little forest! With the app's help I managed to find my way back and when I found the tower, I felt relieved and saved hehe...

19:25 - In the tower, I'm climbing my way up high to find the geocache.

19:27 - In the light of my flashbulb I'm signing its logbook and after that, I get back to my car. I can hardly recognize the dirt road but the final 100 meters were ok to go!

19:32 - I'm in my car again and drive off the private property without anyone paying attention - that's good!

19:48 - Yeah... I'm home again and can finally enjoy the last parts of my salad and drink out my bottle of beer ;-)

So, this was one of the most spontaneous as well as adventurous geohashes I have done so far, even if it took less than one hour from start to end... Still looking forward to do tomorrow's hash as well!
