Expedition

Needing to take a couple days off before the end of the year (or I lose those days), I was off yesterday and today. Looking at the weekend hashpoints, I saw today's hash would be accessible, but didn't feel the need to drive 45 minutes to stop on the side of the road. However, I then checked my Centicule map and found the 73 square completely empty. Maybe I could swing this after lunch and stop somewhere with Simon for a hike. We would be going right by Hunter's Creek (County park) anyway.

After doing some errands around the house and then having an early lunch to catch the end of the morning World Cup matches, I got Simon ready and we headed out the door. Using my Phone GPS to guide us, I arrived at Maxon road without any issues. A little ways from the corner, I caught up to a tractor pulling a manure trailer and we weren't that far from the hash. He was going pretty slow, but I figured he would still catch up to us at the hash if we had problems or I took too long getting pictures. Turns out, I didn't have to worry as the Blue Dot was showing on the wrong side of the road in the HashDroid app and I never got a close enough reading while I drove by.

So I turned around and parked across the road from the hash while the Blue Dot now seemed very accurate. The tractor was coming down the hill so I waited in my car for him to go by before hopping out and walking over to the hash. Granted, I did have to step off the road to get a good reading, but it certainly wasn't 21 feet/ 6 meters away from the lane of traffic. Needless to say, I got pictures of the area and then headed back toward Hunter's Creek.

Pulling in that driveway, I had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting a loose dog (1 of 5) that ran toward the front of my car. The two older guys called it back and I was able to safely park. Unfortunately, they were also heading in so I gave them a few minutes head start and broke away from them on another trail as soon as I could. Setting my alarm for about 30 minutes, I wandered the trails and avoided people as best I could. Right as we were turning around a couple with another dog was letting it run around and it ran up to Simon to greet us. We had a nice hike/run before heading back home.
