Expedition
The buses to the villages only run very seldomly, especially on Sundays, so I had to get a specific one. I could depart from the new bus stop right out our front door for the first time, and rode the bus to Nahe. I wasn't certain whether the bus would stop in Nahe (as the app said) or continue via Oering to Bad Oldesloe (as the bus plan said), so I waited past my suggested stop to see where it would go. This was the wrong decision, however, as the bus turned in the wrong direction toward its final halt, from where I had to cycle back the way I came. It was 6.3 km to the hash, but as I didn't have my phone out due to the freezing cold, I missed one turn and took two other ones too early.
When I arrived at the hash, which lay at the edge of a field only 40 m from the town's outermost building, I noticed the resident rummaging about in front of his house. As the hash was in full view from there, I waited behind a bush as the man took his time wandering about, taking out the trash, carrying packages and more before finally disappearing. I quickly made my way to the coordinates right on the tractor track, cracked the frozen puddles in the track's recess and took pictures with Lumitu. I think I heard noises from the house, but deliberately didn't react, and when I finally looked no one was there. Walking back to my bike, I sucked on a piece of ice and admired the beauty of the white, frozen landscape. I tried to build a snowman, but as the snow was several days old there was no chance. I checked the temperature and it was indeed below freezing.
I cycled north first in order to claim a Tron achievement, though it probably doesn't qualify since I had to cycle back earlier. A few minutes after departing, my headphones were empty, and my bike's speedometer was dead too soon after. It was 14.3 km home, alternatingly up and down, and I failed in my attempt to not freeze my digits off as my left toes first hurt badly and then went numb despite two pairs of thick socks. At least my headband under the bonnet and thermal underwear paid off, and I didn't even have to turn on my self-heating gloves. I wasn't able to drink on the way back, however, since the water in my bottle had frozen. After arriving home sweat-soaked and hurting from cold at the same time, I had to press my toes against the heater for a while to get it back to normal.
