Expedition

I'd considered reaching this one by train, bus and bike, but in the end it seemed a bit too far and the bus schedule too sparse. So I'd written it off until my dad suggested making a tour on his motorcycle together. I'm not a fan of motorcycles and had declined all his previous offers, but had to acknowledge that couldn't really know what it was like until I tried it once, and reaching a geohash was just enough motivation to persuade me. But first I had to watch the tie-breaks of the World Chess Championship. After Ding Liren had upset Ian Nepomniachtchi and won the title in the final game of rapid chess not even ten minutes after pulling off the genius move Rg6! when it had already seemed like the players had agreed to a fourth draw, I was ready to go. My dad had already decided to go on his own because it had taken him too long, but I was able to catch him in time.

We drove to the Segeberger Forst via some detours, me sitting on the back and frantically holding on to the tiny handholds in front of me for dear life. From a first-person perspective, motorcycles seem even more reckless and dangerous. However, we made it there unharmed, and at least the weather was nice.

Wearing much-too wide motorcycle trousers and a thick padded jacket, we went into the forest and walked for m until I went into the trees and my dad stayed behind. I reached the hash m from the track without problems, hashdanced for a while due to the terrible signal and explored a nearby clearing before heading back. On the way back I held on to my dad's shoulders, which seemed a bit more safe, but I can't say I enjoyed my first motorcycle ride a great deal. One experience richer, I guess. Oh, and one more hash.
