I put off writing this for a long time because this was the first Geohash I went on where Simon the Dog was greatly missed; he would have loved this new area to explore. I don't remember a ton of details, one of which: why we went early and couldn't make an Official Sat Meetup. I do know that being a beautiful, sunny, summer day, J and I definitely wanted to get out for a good hike and this was a great opportunity.

I remember getting there and seeing a big parking area in front of the gate on the road going up and around toward the Geohash, but next to the parking area was some ongoing and active construction. I asked one of the guys in the excavator if it was ok to park where I did to make sure I wouldn't be in the way and he said it was no problem. After grabbing my pack and hiking pole, we headed up the hill to explore. I recalled (from the satellite view) we didn't have many turns on the trail although it did branch off in a couple places so we had to be a little careful. Once we were on top of the hills, the trail flattened out and we had an easier time of things and could enjoy the scenery. We came across a couple places where there were old holding tanks for gas/oil and some old drilling/pumping equipment. Some of it was quite rusty and we couldn't tell if anything was still in use. There's a lot of shale in southern NY and the Appalachian range in PA which holds a lot of natural gas.

Finally getting to the hash area, we found the area wasn't too overgrown, but J still decided to hang out on the main trail while I bushwhacked to the hash without too much difficulty. I was able to get a good reading and some pictures before we continued on for a little bit longer. When we got back to the car, there was a big dump truck that was maneuvering around to head out with a full load and it looked like the other construction guys were also wrapping up for the day. I considered walking across the road to the small lake/dam and checking that out, but with the extra bit added on the end of our hike, we were ready to just head home.
