Expedition

In the evening, I took the train to Ellerau and cycled 3 km to the hash. It lay on a meadow just behind a car dealership, but because I wasn't sure whether there would still be people there, I instead approached from the east, leaving my bike on a small path. From there, I had to skirt around two edges of a fenced-in area, at times having to venture onto the adjacent field. Because it was so warm and all my non-warm long trousers were unavailable, I had violated the first rule of Geohashing and put on shorts. I was just able to step carefully between the nettles and thorny vegetation and reach the hashmeadow unharmed. It consisted of normal grass with an area of red sorrel or dock in the middle, at the very edge of which the geohash was located. I took pictures and watched some of the insects, including butterflies and bumblebees, before making my way back. I wanted to try going back the other, shorter way around the fenced area, but was soon faced with lots of nettles and stingers. Wrapping my cardigan around my left leg to protect it worked for a few steps, though the right leg was now in danger. I tried wrapping it around both legs, but that worked even worse. When I reached the edge of the meadow, I saw what hellish abomination I'd have to navigate through and turned back to take the other way around, which was again tricky but doable. After 280 m, I reached my bike and either cycled home or to Ellerau station where I took the train. (I actually forgot, since I'm writing this six weeks late and have done both so many times recently.)
