Expedition

The next trip to Struvenhütten, exactly one month after the last. I was pretty busy, but managed find a free 1.5 hours in late afternoon, planning to take the bus from Hüttblek to Kisdorf on the way back. So I cycled 13 km to Struvenhütten via Kisdorf, Winsen, and Kattendorf and had 15 minutes to reach the hash. However, an elderly couple on bikes stood on the path right at the nearest point to the hash, seemingly watching an empty construction site on the opposite side. Of course, I couldn't just walk onto a field in front of them, so I cycled around the next corner and hoped that they would leave soon. The next few times I checked, they were still there – what the hell were they doing? After a while, they finally departed, and I was able to access the hashfield. The coordinates lay only 30 m onto the field, and I carefully tried to step between the rows, not sure if they had already been seeded. I quickly located the geohash and went back, glad that nobody came by in the few minutes. Still on time, I left for Hüttblek to catch the bus.

Just before I reached the small town's only bus stop five minutes before its departure, a bus passed me. I was confused, was this my bus that came way early or another line? I checked on my phone, and it had indeed been my bus. Why the hell does it leave five minutes too early‽ How are you supposed to know this is a possibility? If I'd left the hash half a minute earlier, I might've caught it! Of course, this was also the last bus of the day, though I wouldn't've waited anyway.

Somewhat angry, I started cycling home. This mishap had cost me ten minutes, and I had a meeting scheduled that I'd now be late for! A few minutes later, a car passed and raised a whole cloud of dust that I crossed right through. It got in my eyes; I was blinded and had to slam the brakes with closed lids. It took me a painful five minutes and a lot of tear fluid to get the specks out of my right eye, during which I tried to cycle with one eye closed, noticing how difficult it was. I finally arrived home after eight minutes after the start of the meeting. Fortunately, my contact had been delayed on a bus as well and was also late.
