Expedition

After a bit of a dry patch of good locations, the geohashing gods have graced us with a few footpath or front garden locations.

Hot on the heels of the fortuitous 29 February hash yesterday (a 3 hour bike ride), I was pretty surprised to see...another 3 hour bike ride today.

After coffee and lunch with KT, I charted a course north east, along the Main Yarra Trail and then the Koonung Trail - better known as "that one along the eastern Freeway".

The only moment of note was when I paused to cool off under some shade next to one of those bike repair stations. I suddenly decided this was the moment to move my seat forward, as advised by Tom probably a year ago.

The kind of mechanical operation that has very minor upside, and potentially high downside, and probably shouldn't be attempted in the sweltering sun some distance from home.

After a few rounds of misapplying "lefty loosey", I eventually got the saddle moved.

Unfortunately, I then noticed that although I'd filled up my drink bottle at home, I'd apparently forgotten to actually bring it.

Fortunately, I had a second drink bottle with me.

Unfortunately, it was empty.

Fortunately, right next to the bike station, there was a water fill-up station.

Unfortunately, it was out of order. Just kidding, it was working, so I gave myself a solid drenching inside and out. Although there was a moment where I was splashing myself from the big drip tray at the bottom before remembering it was probably full of dog slobber.

On I went.

Some time later I gazed fondly at the spot where Felix and I once did a geohash before finding somewhere more secluded for a beer.

Soon, I turned north on a trail I didn't previously know existed.

Then things got really hilly, and very sweaty. I was in a land of neo-Georgian mansions.

I was slowly cycling through podcasts in different accents. By the time I was home, it would be American, English, Australian, American, French. Unexpectedly, my right bluetooth earbud was working.

Eventually I arrived at the spot. The houses here had no front fence or clear delineation of boundary, but I think it's safe to say the point was in their front garden.

It was a surprisingly steep patch of grass, which I scampered up, grabbed a screenshot, and scampered back down for my selfie.

And then back into the sun and the hills and the sweat.

At the hitherto-unknown-to-me Tunstall Square shopping centre I scouted in vain for an ice creamery, before giving up and searching a duopoly supermarket. But even there I couldn't find an ice cream fridge, so settled on two sports drinks (special!) which went down disturbingly easily.

Then nothing really happened until I got home.
