The Pendleton graticule includes a diverse range of scenery, from the agricultural lands of the Columbia Basin to the northwest, the forested uplands of the Blue Mountains that cross the graticule from southwest to northeast, to the drier area around the Grand Ronde Valley to the northeast. Interstate 84 connects the two largest towns, Pendleton and LaGrande, with secondary and smaller roads allowing pretty good access to much of the graticule.
