We had very similar expeditions! You're a lot braver than I am. Admittedly I had a clear path to follow, where you did not. I also was ill-prepared for deep snow, did not leave myself enough daylight time, and felt more crazy with each step. I take great comfort in the fact that I gain new knowledge and experience with each "not reached" trip.

The lack of satellite imagery in that area is surprising. You hint at wanting to do such adventures again, and do them better. My most useful recommendation would be getting a Mussio backroads mapbook. Even when I have maximum satellite detail, I use it planning, I use it in the car, and I take it in my pack.
