No, I had the flash on by mistake. I turned the flash off to take another picture and it turned out blurry, so I didn't use it. It did get dark on my way back to my truck. It took about 30 minutes to walk both directions. --NWoodruff 15:27, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Yep ... 3 minutes after I wrote my comment, I thought about the possibility of a much darker background when using the flash. One can see the reflection in the flash picture and the washy picture with longer exposure time which brightens the background.--Reinhard 17:39, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Please don't trespass on property where you have specifically been told where to go. It sounds as if you snuck in the back gate after being denied entrance at the front. That looks very bad. I'm saying that not out of jealousy for a streak of success in what appears to be a supremely accessible graticule, but out of concern for the reputation of my favourite sport. I have actually had people e-mail me (I'm not in charge of anything, but I'm around a lot, so I suppose that's why) with concern about your attitude. I know it's enthusiasm on your part. Heck if you didn't drive a car I'd think you were about thirteen years old, the age where enthusiasm often trumps common sense. I'm not opposed to enthusiasm, but I'm very much in favour of common sense and a good reputation for our sport. The correct reaction to a "no" is to thank the person, reiterate that geohashers only go onto property with permission, and walk away. A win for this one would be if you had found an owner who gave you permission to come in, as easy as, "hey, nice golf course. Can I come over there and see?" thus fulfilling the security guard's stipulation.

If the golf course wasn't part of the gated community, then I advise you to edit the report to make it clearer that the gated community was just a shortcut denied. If it was a trespass, you should admit the mistake and break the streak with the previous geohash. Really really don't do things like this again. I love this sport and want it to continue. The German newspaper story already made an error saying that "geohashers get prizes for climbing over fences." It's our job as geohashers to strongly represent ourselves as "geohashers are respectful to people and their property." And you can actually have more fun. For example, thepiguy and I wouldn't have had a tour of an organic chicken farm if we had hopped over the fence into the target field and retreated.

Plus showing more respect for the security guard would be nice in either case. It doesn't matter how old she was or what she was smoking, she was doing her job and that was not to let people in without a homeowner's say-so, no matter where on the Internet they were from. When you hop fences or sneak in the back way you are not only disrepecting the property owners, but all your fellow geohashers who are trying to build a good reputation for the sport. I agree with Robin. Though I hash in a region where it's unlikely I'll stumble upon other geohashers, I still would like us all to maintain a level of respect for people and their property so that the few people who do interact with us OR stumble upon the wiki view us favorably. That will both allow our sport to grow in both favorability and popularity. The only place I disagree with Robyn is that I think the streak should stop again prior to this previous expedition. --excellentdude 20:44, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
