Talk:Radio Communications
Of course, real nerds would be using amateur radio :)
- ...of course, they would! (probably in addition to one of the frequencies in the table!). For those so licensed, the "national calling frequency" for simplex communications on 2-meters (the most affordable portable/handheld radio) in the US is 146.520 MHz. If you were monitoring that simplex frequency, you might hear a "real nerd" nearby to the hash location. --Briand 20:49, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe there should be a code word in the case of being intercepted like, "Internet to red spider come in" some simple little thing to make it more fun and pointless! --Ishboo 05:00, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- I think any number of xkcd-based "catchphrases," such as 'raptor defense' or 'man with the hat' could be easily recognized by enthusiasts. It would almost be more fun to not have a standard, in my opinion. Trying to come up with covert but easily recognizable messages is half the fun. --Tim P 05:40, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
I added Japan to the list (and consequently changed "Continent" to "Region" as (as far as i can tell) Japan has different laws from other countries in asia). Also, I'm sorry that my entry for the channel makes that column so darn long, but there's really a lack of standardization in Japanese walkie-talkies, so I'm afraid that that's as general as I can get... I kinda suspect the chances of anyone actually finding me by radio is pretty slim =P Probably better just to come up with a little phone-browser accessible web page to chat on... Radio-coordinated meetups seem so rare (or non-existant) that maybe they should be an achievement. Or just removed entirely. --The ru 10:47, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Would people be interested in having a list of geohashers with licences? I was going to make a template for peoples' User pages, but I wasn't sure if that's the done thing, let alone whether there are more than two of us... :( Tongs (talk) 19:14, 28 October 2017 (UTC)
- Finally done, at Template:Callsign. Tongs (talk) 06:05, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
