I found out about geohashing from the XKCD blog talking about the Antarctica global hash. I've actually done a couple of Geocaches in the past, and I found out about those through my high school Latin IV teacher, who made it our final project to hide a series of Geocaches that somehow lead you through something Classics-related. But even though I've known about those since 2007, I never heard of geohashing until November 2012.

* I was born in 1990 in [[Moscow, Russia|Moscow]], in the Moscow [[graticule]] in Russia, and grew up right next door in [[Obninsk, Russia|Obninsk]], but sadly, I doubt I will ever be doing any hashing there, so unless Russia's relationship with expatriates changes, I might never get the [[Origin geohash achievement]]. 
* When I moved to America in 1999, I lived mostly in Santa Clara County, near [[San Francisco, California|San Francisco]], which is apparently mostly water - sad to hear.

*My first attempt to geohash never actually got off the ground. 
*It was the second day that I had known about it, November 15th in Sacramento, and it turned out that on this day the hash fell on a really cool spot, in the [http://www.yolohiker.org/trails/fremont/index.html Fremont Weir State Wildlife Area] on something that looked easy to hike to. 
*But alas, I didn't have the preparation skills, woke up too late in the morning, and had class almost all the way until sunset.
