Îles de Chandeleur, LA]
What's left of the Chandeleur Islands constitute the eastern most part of the state of Louisiana. They are the only land surface in graticule 29N 88W. They are home to one of the oldest US wildlife refuges. A hundred years ago they supported a small human population and even a lighthouse. In fact three lighthouses have been built there but hurricanes kept knocking them down; the last by hurricane Katrina in 2005. The infamous hurricanes of this century inflicted dramatic devastation here. The little land now remaining above water seems to be eroding fast.
