On [http://irc.peeron.com/xkcd/map/map.html?date=2008-05-21&lat=54&long=-3&zoom=9&abs=1 21st May 2008] the geohash for this graticule was a spot on the coast near Silverdale. While Google maps shows this as being on land, it is actually in the treacherous sands of Morecambe Bay. The closest accessible location was a beach near small caravan park, visible on the aerial view. See [http://youtube.com/watch?v=6Ty8pw1BbKE video here]. The Lancaster and Carlisle graticule

This graticule for 54,-2 encompasses parts of Lancashire, Cumbria, Yorkshire, Northumberland and County Durham, including Lancaster and Carlisle. The graticule is extremely rural, containing parts of the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Pennines. Highly remote geohashes of natural beauty should be expected!
