Revision as of 18:39, 15 June 2009
I live in the Victoria, British Columbia graticule. I'm mostly lurking for now, especially since I don't have a GPS, but if a Geohash appears in an accessible location, I just might try for it.

Geohashes Attempted
- 2009-06-13 48 -123 (Victoria, BC: William Head Institute): thwarted by private property (correctional officers wouldn't let me in for some reason :-)
Retro Expedition Candidates
Here's a list of potential retro expeditions to take and why.
Auspicious Dates
- 2008-05-21 Vancouver: Date the Geohashing web comic was published.
- Looks like a short walk from the Gabriola Island ferry.
- 2005-05-26 Victoria: Origin date of XKCD web comic.
- Looks quite accessible on Salt Spring Island
- 1998-09-19 Victoria: Date my wife & I got married (in the same graticule no less).
- In the bush near Jordan River -- looks doable though.
- 2008-09-19 Victoria: 10-year anniversary.
- Right off highway 112 east of Port Angeles in Washington State.
- 1972-08-02 Victoria: My birthday in my local graticule.
- Looks fairly accessible out in East Sooke.
Origin Geohash
Some day, I'll have to go for the Origin geohash achievement and get to this location. It actually looks pretty doable. Just got to get myself to the Montreal area first, that's all.
Contrived Dates
Chosen more for the resulting accessible Geohash:
- 1993-01-01 Victoria: New Years 1993.
- A spit in East Saanich, right across from James Island.
- 1974-01-01 Victoria: New Years 1974.
- Just off Willis Point Road.
