Expedition
excellentdude: This day found my girlfriend and I traveling down Interstate 44 in Missouri, from St. Louis to Springfield. As I do before most of my road trips, but especially made sure to do on this geohashing holiday, I checked the day's fractions and the graticules along my route before I left. The Lebanon, Missouri, graticule by far presented the best opportunity with coordinates just a couple miles from the highway.
We exited the interstate, and after having not noticed missing a turn for a short time still quickly made it to the neighborhood of the hash. We got to a point on the nearest road to the hash where the hash was in a fenced field to our right and there was a house to the left. It wasn't clear who owned the land, so we decided to stop at this house and ask. A nice woman outside told us that a family back around the corner the way we had came from owned the land, and that if no one was there their father lived in a house between here and there and might be able to help us. Thanking her, we set off for the first house she mentioned. A nice dog met us, but unfortunately no one else was home. Not giving up yet, we went to the other house. This time there wasn't even a pet.
So, let's review: House 1: friendly woman; House 2: friendly dog; House 3: nothing. We resigned ourselves that this Mouse Over Day expedition would not end with coordinates being reached. We got a picture of the general area of the hash from the road and another of a small stream nearby. Then it was off to Springfield for an evening of fun with an old high school friend.
