We had a lovely geohash! I think we can call it coordinates reached because we could at least see the hash point even though we didn't go and stand right on it, which would have been a bit rude!

Participants

Plans

I am going to try and get as close as possible, probably somewhere in the college car park. Donks169 might accompany me. Mahahahaneapneap 22:38, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

Great! in that case i'll try and get there too. I would like to meet you! remember to bring juggling balls!! :) --sermoa 23:02, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
What time do you suggest? Unfortunately, I can't get there before about 5 - Is that OK? Mahahahaneapneap 18:27, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
Oh, 5pm is absolutely fine. I may be there a bit earlier, but i'll wait around for you. --sermoa 18:29, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Sermoa plans to take the train to poole, have a bit of a look around the town before walking up Longfleet Road towards the geohash point for 5pm. I'll have my shiny new Android phone so hopefully getting lost will be impossible! ;)

If you're using twitter, i suggest using the hashtag #geohashingN50W1 to communicate.

Expedition

Sermoa's trip

I took the train to Poole arriving just before 3pm. This being my first time in Poole i decided to have a look around. Unfortunately, even with all that new fangled technology in my new google phone with maps, compass, and mobile internet, i am still very bad at navigating. I had to go into the ASDA to ask for directions to the high street! I forgot i could have asked Google maps for directions.

I looked around the town for a little while but there wasn't anything i wanted to buy so i was mainly just taking photos of Bad Uses Of Comic Sans, and Good Uses Of Helvetica! :) I then decided to find my way to the geohash, pausing briefly to check twitter and tweet that i was on my way!

It seems i walked straight past 04housemat and Mahahahaneapneap, or they were just around the corner looking to see if there was a way to get closer to the geohash point. I walked up the road, loving the Geohash Droid application telling me exactly how far i still had to go. I established which house the hash was at, and set about taking photos.

If you look really closely you can see the hand of the person who got the Couch Potato geohash!

Not to long after that, Matt and Ali came walking up the road. We did brief introductions and took more photos. An inhabitant of the house came out to take in the laundry. I managed to say hello, but funnily enough they didn't want to be photographed in celebration of being the surprise lucky recipient of today's Couch Potato Geohash!

Before we left we stuck a sign to a telegraph pole with Matt's hair gel. Shame we didn't think to bring anything more sensible for the purpose!

Since there wasn't ever so much to do in Fernside Avenue, we decided to move to the Poole Park. This was an Excellent Idea. It is a beautiful park with a lake, and swans, and canada geese that we couldn't feed (but it was apparently fine to feed the swans!). We took photos, juggled, ate food, took more photos, juggled some more, and only when we saw a train go past did we realise that i'd have to think about how to get home sometime!

I always seem to want Chips when i go geohashing, so we went to a nice chip shop on the way to Parkstone station. Matt and Ali very kindly walked with me and stayed until my train arrived. Thank you; that was very kind of you!

We had a lovely geohash! I think we can call it coordinates reached because we could at least see the hash point even though we didn't go and stand right on it, which would have been a bit rude!
