I am a researcher at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. An avid reader of xkcd, I decided to begin geohashing after a canceled trip one weekend in July 2010 that left me with a desire to go somewhere, but no idea where. Thankfully, geohashing solved this problem, and I managed to bring along a friend for the ride.
