Jim first realized where this hashpoint was as he was sitting in the Portland (Oregon!) airport waiting for his flight. He did a double take, and checked it again. It was so close to where he had grown up, he had to try for it.
Expedition
As I flew across the country, I kept wondering if I'd make it there in time. It was going to be really close. My flight wasn't supposed to arrive until 10PM, and it would take at least an hour to get to where I could snag a car to go to the hashpoint, and it would be 20-30 minutes to drive to the hashpoint.
But the geohashing gods were smiling upon this expedition. I got into Boston 20 minutes early, my luggage was ready to go by the time I found the correct baggage carousel. The incorrect airport shuttle bus that I got onto turned out to still go to the T station.
I arrived at my destination, and snagged the car keys, rechecked the GPS, and changed the (almost dead) batteries, and threw it and the camera and myself into the car.
And we hit the roads. The deserted roads. In Boston.
The bridge construction that I ran into still let me onto the other side of the Charles River, and off I went towards Lexington. I guessed correctly that the exit after the one I *was certain* went to Lexington was the exit for Waltham Street itself, though I was confused by the fact that it didn't say "Lexington Street". (It used to be that the same stretch of road was called "Waltham Street" in Lexington, and "Lexington Street" in Waltham.)
Trundling down Waltham Street found me at the entrance of the parking lot. I was initially confused by the fact that I didn't reach the hashpoint right away, but it turns out I was misremembering what Google Maps was saying.
I took some pictures, which I'll upload when I return to Oregon, and tried driving through the hashpoint. I'm not sure what the speed limit is for a parking spot, though.
I headed off in search of some sleep, though my body was sort of off by 3 hours at that point.
