Location

The Geohash is located in the Lappwald, a forest near Helmstedt. It is still in Lower Saxony but close to the bordering Saxony-Anhalt.

Plans

I will take the train to Helmstedt, and from there ride my bike to the coordinates. While I'm in the area, I'm planning to take a step into Saxony-Anhalt as well.

Expedition

The expedition went as planned. I got up early and took the train to Helmstedt, which apparently styles itself “City of Unity”, since it used to have an important border checkpoint at the Inner German Border.

The bike ride from the train station to the coordinates was nice. The forest is a bit hilly, and it was fun going up a hill, and then down a hill again. The coordinates themselve were close to the path, so I didn't go into the forest much.

After visiting the coordinates, I wanted to go to Saxony-Anhalt as well. The border goes through the forest as well, but you wouldn't have noticed if it wasn't for that one rather small sign the Saxony-Anhaltian Ministry of Environment had put up. Not very spectacular for being part of the former Iron Curtain, but I guess the checkpoint is where you should go if you want to have the border feeling.

On my way back to the train station, I met a couple of joggers, but none of them seemed to be Geohashers. On the other hand, who knows?
