I was spending a long weekend in Chicago with some friends (one of which is a main character in the musical Hamilton; what a great show!) and had a great time until I was supposed to go home. All afternoon on Monday we had heavy thunderstorms rolling through which delayed the afternoon flights. My flight wasn't scheduled until 19:10 and fortunately, I didn't go to the airport before I got Delay notices texted to me. At least I had extra time to have dinner with my friends before going to the airport. However, after dinner, the last notification indicated my flight was no longer delayed, but cancelled. I was auto-booked on 'the next available flight' but that was two days out and I didn't want to burn extra vacation days at work. I called American Airlines, but was basically told that since I was already on a flight, they weren't going to do anything. Really terrible customer service and I ended up cancelling the flight, crashing on the couch an extra night and renting a car to drive home to Buffalo.
In the morning, I checked the coordinates along my route home and this hash was manageable and not too far of a detour. At least this hash would be waiting about 2/3rds of the way home to break up the drive a little. A little after 09:00, I rousted my friends from bed as they indicated the night before that they wanted to have brunch with me before I left. While they were getting ready, I wrote out my directions home, and then we picked a spot for brunch that was close to the car rental. We finished up eating and I was about ready to head home a bit after 11:00. The car rental was great as I mismatched the address, but the place we went to in the Train terminal was able to pull in the reservation with no added cost.
I dropped off my friends at the apartment and was on my way. Everything was mostly highways so it was relatively easy to get to the hash neighborhood and I only had a few turns to arrive. I had a simple GPS dance on the sidewalk using the HashDroid app and got a couple pictures for proof. Stopping for gas before getting back on the highway, I was back home in Buffalo around 21:00.
