This graticule is located at 29,32. As Suways is the local (Arabic) name for the town known in English as Suez, after which the Suez Canal is named. Suez (a town of 500,000 inhabitants) and the southern end of the Canal are in the extreme north of this graticule, which otherwise contains only a few smaller towns, mostly on the coasts of the Gulf of Suez.
The Gulf itself accounts for about a quarter of the area of the graticule, and splits the graticule into two portions -- the western half is in Northeast Africa, and the eastern quarter is on the Sinai Peninsula in West Asia; thus the graticule is one of the few that spans two continents.
