Examples might include such items as a PDA/handheld running such software, or even something like a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gp2x GP2X] (or similar handheld) to view saved images of the map.  Or you could carry around a laptop, but those things get heavy after the first couple of kilometres/miles :)  Bonus points if you do this [http://xkcd.com/225/ dressed like a ninja].

Revision as of 18:42, 20 December 2020

This achievement was proposed in the past, but has been rejected, because you either do it anyway or otherwise won't get any (possibly expensive) equipment just to get this award. Please read the discussion page for more details.

As per the page proposed achievements: If an achievement has strong opposition and the reasons for opposition are not resolved through discussion, then the proposed achievements category is replaced with the rejected achievements category, the reason explained succinctly on the page, and the page otherwise marked to make sure it isn't confused with an achievements page.

Description

The idea of this achievement is to embrace the wonders of Open Source (and all the other similar licenses like GPL etc) in our geohashing ways. To complete this achievement, one must use a item (or items) of Open Source (or similar) equipment (i.e. software or hardware) to reach a hashpoint. The item needs to actually be used on the journey (e.g. you can't count your desktop computer, the item must reach the point itself).

Examples might include such items as a PDA/handheld running such software, or even something like a GP2X (or similar handheld) to view saved images of the map. Or you could carry around a laptop, but those things get heavy after the first couple of kilometres/miles :) Bonus points if you do this dressed like a ninja.

Proof

Apart from the usual, a picture of the device and its use of Open Source is sufficient proof.
