Arnstein does not belong to the Würzburg public transport system and it was almost 6 pm, so the only possible bus left was going to Karlstadt. There were some buses going to other destinations, too, but Danatar had never heard those town names (far far away). From Karlstadt, there was a train back to Würzburg. Danatar forgot to buy an additional ticket for his bike but the nice conductor did not fine him.

Today's hashpoint is in a plowed field between Arnstein and Schwebenried.

Expedition (Danatar)

This hashpoint is so near to the graticule corner that there will be none nearer to Danatar's home for a long time, so he just had to go there. The expedition started very well, with good roads (but no bicycle tracks) almost up to the hashpoint and the hills weren't too steep. Danatar reached the hashpoint without any problems and took the pictures, then he set about to eat the poppy seed cake he'd bought to celebrate the opportunity. But when he took it from his backpack, it turned out to be a cherry cake which, due to the wetter nature of cherries compared to poppy seeds, had transformed into an amorphous mass. It was tasty nevertheless and the stains were easily removed, so this time the baker won't have to bear the consequences of his wrongdoing.

When Danatar mounted his bike, he found out that he had an almost flat tire. He thought about racing the 10 km to the bus stop in Gramschatz (the last bus to Würzburg would be there 25 minutes later), but a few metres later the tire was totally flat and he had to stop. And neither a repair kit nor a tire inflator nearby (no comments about this, please). Scheisse. So Danatar pushed his bike the 4.5 kilometres back to a bus stop in Arnstein.

Trip to the hashpoint: 1 hour 20 minutes by bike. Return trip: 45 minutes on foot to Arnstein, 1 hour waiting for the bus, 30 minutes to Karlstadt by bus, 20 minutes waiting for the train, 25 minutes by train to Würzburg, 10 minutes home from the train station. In total 3 hours of cursing. Distance cycled: 27.5 km

There is an "intersection monument" exactly at the coordinates N 50°, E 10°, which was about 1 km off the road. A detour was planned for the way back (business before pleasure) but could not be carried out.

Nobody seems to have visited this graticule before. The bike can be seen in photo #2, feigning innocence.

Danatar earned the Graticule Unlocked Achievement
by being the first to reach any hashpoint in the (50, 9) graticule, here, on 2008-09-29.
