Expedition
thepiguy finally managed to escape from work shortly before 17:00. Not that it really mattered, it wasn't getting any darker!
He took the all-to-familiar cycling route out of Würzburg and re-traced his previous track for the first 20km. At one point the road must have been covered in fresh mud (not that he could see it), because he felt his back tire loose traction and for the next kilometer could only watch as clumps of mud flew off his front tire and undoubtedly all up his back as well. As luck would have it, it also started to rain heavily shortly there after. No matter, at least it would wash off some of the mud.
By the time he reached the final turn off to the forest, the wind and the rain had picked up and changed into some sort of sleet and thepiguy took out a few (read: three) extra flashlights. Biking alone in the dark is creepy enough on its own. Add a dark, rainy, secluded forest and it's down right frightening. Wishing he had also brought a pair of nunckucks or, say a katana, thepiguy slowly biked onward while watching the bearing on his GPS.
The forest on his right quickly became dense and seemingly impassable. He passed what appeared to be a small trail very near the point he had planned on entering the forest and chose to back track a few hundred meters and try his luck. At first it seemed to good to be true, not only was it relatively clear of bushes, but it was heading almost directly towards the coordinates. However, his luck quickly changed from good to terrible. At 75 meters the path ended abruptly. thepiguy tried to press onward (he even put his glasses back on so that he wouldn't loose an eye in the dense bush) but after 15 minutes of scrambling he was still 50 meters from the coordinates and found himself unable to continue.
It was bound to happen sooner or later!
