We left Morton about 4:15 or so and just followed the GPS navigation to where it wanted us to go (because Pekin is a baffling maze to those who don't live there). Upon arriving I saw that it was not a house, as I had originally suspected, but a place of business - Poochie's Palace, to be exact (and I haven't stopped thinking about the Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie show since). Rachel didn't want to get out of the car because it was cold, so I walked around in a roundabout area that cars use to get back out onto Derby Street. My new GPS doesn't have the most precise resolution, but I did get both the latitude and longitude to match up to the fifth decimal place, though not necessarily at the same time. It was pretty exciting to me because it gave me a chance to use my new GPS for geohashing purposes, and made me certain that I was in fact on the correct spot for the day.

It was most decidedly colder than 0°C while we were there, but I didn't have a thermometer to bring along and prove it. I will however still claim the Frozen Geohash Achievement, because according to [http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KILPEKIN2&day=11&year=2010&month=1 this], it never got above -2.5°C all day (and in particular, at around 4:30 PM it was about -5.5°C, according to same website).

Plans

We had already planned to go to Pekin today, so the new plan was to leave a little early and take a detour to the hashpoint area, check it out, and see if we could stop and claim it.

Expedition

I will however still claim the Frozen Geohash Achievement, because according to this, it never got above -2.5°C all day (and in particular, at around 4:30 PM it was about -5.5°C, according to same website).
