Plans

Interesting public transport hashpoint that's hard to miss: It's on the train tracks between Frankenthal and Worms. There's also a possibility to (technically) get there at the Saturday 16:00 meetup time: Take the train RB38756. It starts at 15:58 in Frankenthal, so if there are no delays it should go through the hashpoint at or a few minutes after 16:00. I consider going, but I'm not sure yet. Drop me a note if you have plans so we can meet in Frankenthal (or Mannheim, or Heidelberg) to make it a real meetup. I'll try to get into the first coach (if I'm going at all), so you can also meet me in the train... --ilpadre 13:10, 24 February 2012 (EST)

I've decided: I will go now! --ilpadre 08:30, 25 February 2012 (EST)

Expedition

Unfortunately, the train to Bobenheim was three minutes late. It then went through the coordinates at 16:03 - so my plans of being at the hashpoint at the Saturday meetup time were thwarted.

Everything else went just as planned. I entered the train in Mannheim and set up my GPS, watching it closely as the train approached and finally went exactly through the coordinates. I got off in Bobenheim and immediately noticed a "FAIL" stencil that Fivetonsofflax and Euterkuh stumbled upon during their 2010-03-20 49 8 expedition.

I bought a train ticket back and waited about 10 minutes for the train to Mannheim. In there, I lost the GPS signal, so no tracklog back. I tried to get a picture of me with a motocross track that the satellite pictures showed to be next to the coordinates in the background - and succeeded! A stupidgrin picture taken exactly at the hashpoint while moving with about 90 km/h.
