Expedition
The Plan
On Madrid Avenue, in the suburbs off San Jose Boulevard. This is really close for us, and if I had the day off and the weather weren't so miserable and wet, I'd suggest grabbing bikes for this one. Alas, a passing attempt at fitness was not meant to be.
The real question is when should we go; I made plans to be occupied from 7PM to 10PM, and even though I'll have time to make it there and back, it'll be a bit close. The choice is either pick Erica up/have Erica meet me at work and go during lunchtime, or brave rush hour traffic and whip by. Lunch is looking like the best option at the moment.
The Geohashers
The Adventure
I was at work, Erica was heading out to get some essential shopping done. We met at work around 12:15. Timing was important, as the rest of the day was pretty solidly booked. I had nonstop meetings from 1 to 4, wasn't planning on leaving work until 5:30, and had additional plans at 7 to 10, and I knew she wouldn't want to do the hash in a suburb at night. So it was either rush hour traffic or lunch traffic.
This was also nice in the sense that I found some Windows Phone apps to try out instead! The first one we tried was called Geohashing, with Lucas Werkmeister as the author. (There's another one, GeoHash by twilightfallen, that we'll try out next time.) Very good lightweight app, but it didn't want to behave when doing the hash dance; took a bit of finagling to get it just right. In the process of crossing the street, it wanted to say we were half a kilometer away from the point! Good download, but don't expect a quick hash dance.
We left the Nine of Diamonds and went on our way. A quick hit for the day!
Fun fact: Our last hash was on September 30th. Last year, we also had a hash on September 30th... followed by a hash on October 9th. Trivia!
