Expedition

Jessica was back in her hometown for Christmas after living in England for 18 months. She had done a few expeditions with Mcbaneg and hadn't done one in London, even though she checked every day. After checking today's hashpoint, she realized it was less than 2 miles driving from the parents' house in the backyard of a new housing development.

It had started snowing around 7 p.m. and already three inches had accumulated. We bundled up and headed to the hash. We decided to park on the road that led to a dead end to hopefully decrease the chances of disturbing neighbors as it was past 9 p.m.

We noticed a small dog across the street from the hash that was out and barked a few times but didn't think anything of it. We walked through some small brush and stayed far back from the houses to make sure we didn't bother anyone. After checking the new Geohash app and consulting our map, we found our spot, took our cheesy grin pics and had a small snow fight.

We followed our footsteps back to the car, dusted the snow off the windshield and headed off. We did notice the small dog's owner out in her front yard on the phone and jokingly said, "What if she's calling the cops? Wouldn't that be funny!" but didn't take it seriously.

However, on our drive home we passed a cop car and they quickly turned around and followed us. About three blocks from the parents' house, the lights came on. Jessica was hoping a taillight was out so the parental units wouldn't be too mad. But alas, the officer immediately asked if we'd parked on 7th Street and Jessica then had to explain Geohashing to him. Thank goodness for smartphones that quickly pull up google and the Geohash wiki. He smiled at our nerdiness and sent us on our way. He didn't even say don't do it again. Just laughed.

Jessica's punishment for Mark getting pulled over by the cops? She had to make the hot cocoa.
