The distance was 8 km as the bird flies, but Pastori has yet to develop the ability to fly, so they had to take the car and drive around a bit on some small, snowy sand roads. Pastori was a little nervous about how well his car that has a small ground clearance would be able to proceed. Thankfully someone else had driven through those roads that morning and so Pastori was able to easily get as close as a 100 m from the point. They parked the car and continued off to the forest. Plan
Pastori had been very excited ever since Friday the 27th when they found out what the hashpoints were for the weekend and Monday. Finally it seemed that on Monday the 30th they would have the opportunity to attempt their 100th successful hashpoint mission. The preparation for this feat included Wife baking karelian pies on Saturday for them to take with them and Pastori finding a picnic back bag from his stash. Wife also made a big sign out of cardboard with the details already written in in case of success. The weather forecast said it would be stormy and that it would rain sleet and in that case the small forest roads to the hashpoint would be too soft and snowy. Suspense galore!
Expedition
Finally it was Monday morning and the weather was cloudy but not stormy and there seemed to be a little break from the rain. Hurray! And off they went! In the silence they could hear the sounds of forest machines; they'd been the ones to clear the road for them, thank you. They took their bags and signs and a billhook and so Pastori was ready to crash through the thicket. But what's this! The forest bed was even, hard and good to walk on, especially compared with the thickets you usually get around these parts.
They reached the hashpoint in no time and achieved an accuracy of 0.862 m. To celebrate this achievement, Pastori and Wife had a relaxing picnic on this, their 100th successful hashpoint and in their own graticule, no less. They are good, well done Pastori and Wife!
Statistics: 100 successful hashpoint, 2 years 8 months and 2 days of geohashing, a grand total of 124 hashpoints of which 11 failed reports and 13 unreported failed attempts. Today by car 40,6 km, on foot 200 m, time spent 1 hour 30 minutes. Picnic foods: Karelian pies, boiled eggs, cucumber and bell peppers, mandarins and apples, bread cheese [leipäjuusto or Finnish squeaky cheese] with cloudberry jam, blueberry muffins and hot chocolate.
Very satisfied, Pastori and Wife returned home and of course went to sauna. They're waiting for new interesting hashpoints in this funnier than funny and crazier than crazy, wonderful hobby.
